This has thus far been the most scenic and spectacular of drives. We climbed to 4725 meters and crossed the Hualla Hualla pass (aka: Abra Pirhuayani) ...the Defender didn't like it very much but it made it. Although we have other high climbs in the 4100 meter range, they shouldn't be steep as the Hualla Hualla.
At only three years old, the Interoceanic roadway is perfect, but it's constant switchback driving at very low speeds.
At the Abra Pirhuayani peak there was a small family who have recently moved there three years ago to capitalize on the increased traffic. We gave a lift to the father down into the valley for supplies, he was a sweet kind man who was very appreciate of the ride. It was interesting to see all the very small villages and peoples along the road who live very simply. Adults and children were peppered all over the mountain range harvisting corn and bringing it down to the road on their backs.
We pulled into Cusco around lunch time and found a great three star hotel close to Plaza de Armas. We walked around bit and had some lunch. Unfortunately, both Mateo and I were a bit sick from the altitude...so we ended up resting and chatting with family over Skype.
This didn't stop us from conducting a bit of dental work...Gabriel had a loose front tooth and agreed to let dad pull it out! This is one brave boy.
