Aug 7 - Colon to Playa las Lajas, Panama

We had promised the boys some surfing lessons and given that Marnie and I love the beach, we figured it was a good deal. We had set our sights on Playa las Lajas in the Gulf of Chiriqui.  According to our trusted Loney Planet, the beach is 25 km long, lined with palm trees and with some camping options.

Of course we left Colon much later than expected, I had a minor melt down and managed to infuriate my wife, which only made things worse (for me).  Driving through Panama (a very quiet drive) was easy and the roads were quite good, so we managed to cover the 500 km in about 6 hours with a very quick stop at SubWay for lunch.

We pulled into a very basic campsite in Playa las Lajas, but were 30 feet from the ocean and surrounded by palm trees.  We were all excited to fall asleep in the truck listening to the crashing surf.  There was no surfing available for the boys but we promised to keep looking.
